When trying to produce social media content and ads, many companies are guilty of leaning too heavily on AI. Although AI provides an excellent tool for content creation, it can turn off potential customers.

The term ‘AI Slop’ has been coined by online users to describe hastily produced AI content. AI can be perceived as low effort and poor quality as people are getting better at detecting its use. Instead of using it as a generator, AI should be used as a visual aid to enhance real images of products.

AI is often seen as a quick solution for content, but it often generates it without much direction and with weak concepts. Consumers don’t like to feel deceived by what they’re seeing; they want to feel like they’re getting what they’re seeing. Of course, with AI, you cannot receive a tangible, exact replica of a generated product from an ad.

This raises questions for the consumer like 'If the product is so good, then why aren't they showing me the real thing in the ad?'

People like to feel like effort is being put into selling them a product. We appreciate true creativity, even when it comes to advertising. For example, original concepts such as John Lewis’s ‘The Bear & the Hare’ are still remembered to this day. If you want to truly draw in consumers, you need to create original content that stops people from scrolling and captures their imagination. Mass-produced AI content, which is becoming more recognisable in style, will just blend into an overwhelming sea of other content.

So how do we harness this powerful tool to boost our campaigns and content? We recognise that gathering imagery can be difficult while also trying to run businesses; however, new imagery is essential for ads and generating fresh interest. When recycling the same images over and over, ad fatigue can set in as they have gathered as much interest as they can. This requires replacing an old ad with a new one. Sometimes product images taken on the fly need some tweaking to be ready to appear on feeds or formatted correctly for an advert. This is where AI proves incredibly useful to optimise images and make them digestible for the Meta algorithm.

Meta has been encouraging marketers to use videos for ads, as they are shown to be more effective than static ads. However, video footage can also be hard for companies to retrieve. AI is rapidly developing its video generation abilities, and we are already producing more high-quality videos using images. This grabs the attention of social media users and stands out on a feed, leading to a higher click-through rate and volume of leads.

Companies often feel pressured to produce shocking or perceived innovative content to capture the attention of the masses; however, the power of a striking, polished image is too often overlooked.

At DigitalKOG, we combine human creativity with the latest AI tools to create social media content that’s authentic, engaging and built to perform.
