The Challenge

Stop Mail is a free service provided by the Bereavement Support Network.

It enables friends and family members of a deceased person to remove them from direct marketing lists to stop the sending of any unsolicited mail.

The process of using the online service was seen as too complex and needed simplifying so that it didn’t cause grieving people any added distress.

A human-centred website design was called for as sensitivity was at the very crux of this project.

The service proposition is explained with concise messaging so that visitors can quickly fathom how it works and what they need to do.

We’ve also introduced intuitive navigation with the addition of an anchor button on the home page so that when the primary CTA is clicked, it directs the user straight down to the online submission form that needs populating with details of the deceased.

This form has the most legible layout and is undemanding to fill in, with only a small number of input fields.

Green was selected as the button action colour for the form’s CTA, being symbolic of the word ‘go’.

The Result

Stop Mail’s revamped digital outlet successfully accounts for the emotional needs of users who may interact with the website by putting their needs first.
